Katharine Teigen is currently pursuing an MPH in Environmental Health from Boston University School of Public Health, where she serves as the Program Manager for the school’s Center for Climate and Health. Her research interests concern understanding the human health effects of climate change, especially on vulnerable and environmental justice communities. She has a particular interest in understanding how physical and mental health is impacted by wildfires and related air pollution in the western United States. Her current projects include an assessment of extreme weather preparedness and the community’s lived experience across the Boston University campus, as well as a narrative review of the literature on the mental health impacts of wildfire exposure. She is also a Research Intern with the Health Effects Institute Energy program, where she is evaluating community engagement for their projects on unconventional oil and gas development. She will be pursuing a PhD program in the fall to further investigate her research questions and develop skill sets to translate research into substantive policy action.
