Katharine Mach is a Professor of environmental science and policy at the University of Miami. She specializes in assessing climate change-induced hazards like flooding, wildfires, and extreme heat. Mach was a Senior Research Scientist and Director of the Stanford Environment Assessment Facility. She co-directed Working Group II of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) from 2010 to 2015, contributing to the IPCC's Fifth Assessment Report and Special Report on Managing the Risks of Extreme Events and Disasters. Mach is a chapter lead for the U.S. Fifth National Climate Assessment and lead author for the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report. She received the Piers Sellers Prize for contribution to solution-focused climate research and is a member of several advisory committees. Mach received her Ph.D. from Stanford University and AB summa cum laude from Harvard College.
