An ELI Public Breaking News Webinar
In late October, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy directed the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to initiate a major new rulemaking proceeding to standardize how large loads, such as data centers, connect to the transmission grid. The directive included an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANOPR), Ensuring the Timely and Orderly Interconnection of Large Loads, which could mark a turning point in how fast-growing demand for electricity is integrated into the grid and who bears the costs of upgrades.
Join ELI and expert panelists to discuss the ANOPR and unpack the drivers of this policy shift, with a focus on how this could affect state and local planning and what it means for utilities, regulators, and communities navigating the wave of data center growth.
Panelists:
Alexandria Nelson, Program Director, Digital Economy and the Environment, Environmental Law Institute, Moderator
Todd Aagaard, Heller McGuinness Leadership Chair and Professor of Law, Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law
Neil Chatterjee, Chief of Governmental Affairs Officer, Palmetto Energy; Former Charman, U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
Neal Elliott, Director Emeritus, American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy
Christopher Schenker, Data Scientist, Halcyon
