In an effort to make our experts' information widely accessible, the Environmental Law Institute is now offering our Monthly Climate Change Briefings to the public without any fees.

Staying on top of the legal and policy developments in the climate change arena is no small task. As a special service to the public, the Environmental Law Institute provides a series of monthly webinars with national experts on climate law and policy to keep you up to date with short presentations about various sectors, along with time at the end for discussion between the panelists and to answer audience questions.

Topics to be addressed in this month's briefing:

  • Overview of state activity since the start of the new Administration this year
  • Update on several rulemakings related to GHG emissions
  • State of Connecticut v. ExxonMobil -- Denying motion to dismiss claim that Exxon violated Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act by engaging in campaign of deception
  • Chamber of Commerce v. Sanchez -- Injunction granted against implementation of California law on climate-related financial risk disclosures
  • Conservation Law Foundation v. Pike Fuels -- Denying motion to dismiss by new owners of oil tank farm
  • Environmental Working Group v. Tyson Foods -- settlement of lawsuit concerning Tyson's "climate-smart beef program"
  • PacificCorp v. Idaho Natural Resources Commission -- Owner of natural gas power plant in Washington cannot recoup from Idaho customers the compliance costs associated with Washington's climate law
  • Roberts v. Utah Department of Natural Resources -- new suit alleging that issuance of permits for oil, gas, and coal development violates youth plaintiffs' rights under Utah Constitution
  • Kennedy v. Exxon Mobil -- New suit attempting to hold fossil fuel companies liable for increase in homeowner insurance policy rates due to extreme events caused by climate change
